Car manufacturer, Volkswagen and engineering company, Bosch have decided to scrap their plans for a joint venture aimed at equipping battery cell factories.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung, who clarified that the partnership with Volkswagen to digitize its battery factories will still continue.
The decision was made to speed up the digitalization process, which could be done more effectively through project-level collaborations, according to Tanja Rueckert, Bosch’s head of digital.
The joint venture was initially announced in early 2022, with the aim of providing battery production systems and helping battery cell manufacturers scale up and maintain their production sites.
However, Volkswagen has confirmed that they are still committed to equipping battery cell factories and are currently in talks with potential partners.
A a Volkswagen spokesperson said, “We are not setting up a joint venture. Volkswagen and PowerCo are sticking to their plan to get involved in equipping battery cell factories in the future. We are in talks with potential partners. We will inform you about the exact constellation in due course.”
