Tesla Incorporated’s chief executive officer, Elon Musk, today received requests from the U.S. Department of Justice for documents related to its full self-driving and autopilot driver-assistance as regulatory checks deepens.
Musk has been the brain behind the innovation to improve road safety and position the company as a technology leader.
Although there is much to be worried about on this improvement but regulators are examining the auto-pilot’s design and its capabilities which may lead not only to forgetfulness but accident.
The US Department of Justice had reported that in 2021 more than a dozen crashes occurred involving autopilot.
However, autopilot are designed to assist braking, steering, speed and lane changes.
Also, Tesla’s full self-driving software goes for $15,000, an add-on that enables its vehicles to change lanes and park autonomously.
Reuters reported that both the full-self-drive and autopilot systems use the steering wheel monitoring function – an alert which instructs drivers to hold the wheel to confirm they are paying attention.
