Snapchat is introducing a sound feature that enables users to make montage movies that automatically sync to the beat of music tracks from the Sounds library.
Users have a choice of 4–20 images or videos from their camera roll. The function is already available on iOS everywhere and will be available on Android in March.
“By expanding the Sounds experience, Snapchat is making it easier and faster for Snapchatters to discover and share the music they love with friends,” Manny Adler, Head of Music Strategy at Snap, said in a statement.
“Snapchat has also created a unique opportunity for artists to reach a valuable and engaged audience, while then also leading fans to listen to the full song on streaming services.”
According to the firm, films made using music from Sounds on Snapchat have generated over 2.7 billion views and over 183 billion video views since Sounds launched in 2020.
The rollout coincides with Snapchat’s recent announcement that it now has over 750 million active monthly users. In the next two to three years, according to the firm, there is a road to reaching more than 1 billion individuals.
