Meta has fixed a Facebook bug that caused the social network to send out automatic friend requests whenever users visited any profile.
Meta apologised for the glitch in a statement shared with The Daily Beast on Friday. “We fixed a bug related to a recent app update that caused some Facebook friend requests to be sent mistakenly,” a Meta spokesperson said.
“We’ve stopped this from happening and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The glitch, predictably, elicited equal parts delight and confusion. Many users instantly pointed out that the technical error rendered it momentarily difficult to “Facebook stalk” other users.
Worryingly, some people discovered that Facebook sent friend invitations to people they were attempting to block.
