The Italian government has banned the artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT in the country.
According to the country’s data protection authorities, the AI service has been blocked and is being investigated due to privacy concerns.
According to the report, the system lacks a proper legal basis for collecting personal information about the people who use it. This information is gathered to aid in the training of the algorithm that powers ChatGPT’s responses.
Authorities also accused OpenAI of failing to verify the age of its ChatGPT users and of failing to enforce rules prohibiting users over the age of 13.
It’s just the latest criticism levelled at ChatGPT and the artificial intelligence systems that power it, developed by OpenAI.
Italy’s decision came just days after a group of experts called for a halt to new system development, citing concerns that the rush to create new AI tools could be dangerous.
