BMW has unveiled a prototype automobile that can change colour and showcases digital features, such as: projecting driving data across the inside of the windshield.
The car, which is called ‘i Vision Dee’, was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The name Dee is an acronym for digital emotional experience.
One of the prominent figures who attended the unveiling was Hollywood actor and former California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Schwarzenegger, as a way of making a joke about an automobile being able to achieve this feat with the use of technology, said, “I was a little concerned because in most of my movies, the machine was the enemy. Now they are the allies.”
Although, the BMW ‘i Vision Dee’ is just an idea for now, it is supposed to shape the design of how the luxury manufacturer builds its future cars. For example, having driving data such as speed or direction flash on the windshield is scheduled to be an option as of 2025.
BMW has also raised the possibility of projecting augmented reality images on the windshield and turn it into a full-fledged screen with technology that mixes “real and virtual worlds.”
Daily Trust reported that the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMW, Oliver Zipse, while addressing the audience at the event, said the idea is to use software to create “the ultimate companion” offering a personalized driving experience.
